Qis v5 was selected for its tracking and tracing, statistical analysis and data collection features.
RBV Leaf strategy is based on employee-run 'process operation to process control' improvement teams and according to plant manager Jos van Wilsum, Qis supports this approach by "providing employees with the right information to act in a preventative way".
Qis was also installed in the new chewing gum plant and quality manager, Afke de Jong explains why she used it from start-up: "We know that during start-up of a new plant we will have problems.
To identify the cause of these problems you need fact-based information from your processes.
Qis can supply this information on-line thus supporting us in tracing the causes of these process deviations".
She adds that "QIS supplies us with the right information to optimise specifications" through its document management module.
Afke concludes that the installation "turned out quicker than expected with payback right from the start of operation".
The next stage is to use the Qis LabLink module to automatically collect data from weighing devices and test instrumentation to complete the information loop.
