Dental training centre opened by Renishaw
Renishaw, a world leader in industrial measurement and CAD/CAM technologies, has opened a new dental training facility at its headquarters in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, UK
The new facility, which was formally opened by Richard Daniels, chief executive of the UK-based Dental Laboratories Association (DLA) on 14 March 2006, will enable members of dental teams to become familiar with the latest techniques developed by Renishaw to maximise the full potential of dental CAD/CAM systems.
At the opening, Renishaw also formally announced that it is launching its own metal-free dental CAD/CAM system, which it says will be the only process that certifies the quality of fit for manufactured ceramic restorations.
Full details of the new Renishaw Incise process will be revealed shortly, but its development has drawn on the company's 33 years of experience in precision measurement, 3D digitising and machining, plus pioneering research into the relationship between the clinical impression and the master model.
Renishaw will use the new dental training facility to host regular seminars focused on giving dental teams a better understanding of the behaviour of various impression materials and model materials, together with the relationship between the clinical landmarks upon which the final prosthesis is to be fitted.
The facility is fitted with all the necessary dental equipment to accommodate all members of the dental team, whether dentists, nurses or technicians.
Speaking at the opening of the new facility, Bryan Austin, director and general manager of Renishaw's dental products division said, "We aim to bring the very latest in dental technology to the fingertips of those who wish to deliver state of the art metal-free ceramic restorations to their patients." Commenting on the new Incise process, Austin continued, "Using Renishaw's technology, experience and expertise, we will show how inaccuracies produced at each stage of the crown and bridge manufacturing process can be measured, and how our new incise process minimises or even eliminates these errors".
"Our overriding aim is to supply our customers with precision fit frameworks that eliminate remakes, guaranteeing an easier life for patients, dentists and dental technicians.".
