Platon Flow products from Roxspur Measurement and Control are approved for the precise control of the butane flames used on fire testing of materials used in the manufacture of furniture.

Any fabrics or other materials used to manufacture furniture offered for UK sale must be flammability tested according to the procedures specified in British Standard BS5852 (and the European equivalent), to prove they are suitable These standards define the flow rates of butane that should be used to simulate different ignition sources, like burning matches and newspapers

Within the two parts of BS5852, three distinct butane flow rates are defined, 45ml/min, 160ml/min and 350ml/min: these must be monitored using a flowmeter and fine control valve pre-calibrated to show the butane flow rate.

Platon G series glass tube variable area flowmeters are available to satisfy these requirements, and one G series brass or stainless steel meter body, complete with the integral fine control valve, can be supplied with two separate, interchangeable tubes to cover all three flow measurement points.

The Platon glass tubes are supplied pre-calibrated for butane flows, traceable to National Standards, and the scale markings even have red lines to identify the three flow rates specified.

Since the standard also requires that the flexible hose used to deliver the gas to the burner shall be 7mm +/-1mm bore, Platon supply nozzles suitable for connecting this hose to the flowmeter, plus a bench stand to keep the whole assembly stable.

Platon gas and liquid variable area flowmeters can be scaled to suit any application requirement, for different gases and liquids.

The principle of the glass tube VA flowmeter is applicable to laboratory or plant use, and different housings are available to suit each application.
