Culture medium offers a consistently high T cell yield in a serum-free environment, while the elimination of fetal bovine serum effectively reduces performance variability and removes safety risks

Sigma has introduced Stemline T cell expansion medium, a new serum-free T cell medium optimised specifically for expansion and activation of human T cells After a direct comparison to a commercially available competitor's serum free media, Stemline T Cell expansion medium has been selected as the best medium for T cell expansion in an upcoming clinical trial supported by Gerhard Bauer of the Siteman Cancer Center GMP facility at Washington University in St Louis, USA

This new culture medium offers a consistently high T cell yield in a serum-free environment, says Sigma.

The elimination of fetal bovine serum effectively reduces performance variability and removes safety risks associated with possible adventitious agents in serum.

T cells expanded ex vivo in Stemline T Cell expansion medium exhibit rigorous and consistent growth kinetics, maintenance of the proper CD4/CD8 ratio, and both ex vivo (chromium release assay) and in vivo functionality (graft vs host induction in NOD/SCID- and mice).

"We're very excited about the release of the new member of the Stemline media platform," commented Lisa Masterson, cell culture product manager at Sigma-Aldrich.

"It has shown very promising results in bench scale experiments and I look forward to the results from the upcoming clinical studies.".
