Biomedical services complement NHS plan

A Sira product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Aug 12, 2004

Sira says its biomedical business is delivering low-cost instruments and R and D services in the field of optical-based screening and diagnosis to primary healthcare providers

This complements the NHS Plan which aims to bring diagnosis and prevention into the community.

The NHS Plan proposes a radical restructuring of the NHS to provide patients with quality healthcare based on clinical need while reducing costs.

To achieve this aim the NHS is developing new ways of meeting patients' needs closer to home and work - thus cutting the increasing costs associated with administering healthcare once a disease is established.

Early diagnosis requires increased access to diagnostic instrumentation for primary care trusts (PCTs) - for example clinics and outpatient services.

Sira has over 80 years of experience designing, building, testing and bringing to market innovative products, incorporating cutting-edge optical design.

This understanding of biomedical instrumentation enables Sira to offer a complete range of bespoke product design, development and manufacturing services at a low cost to PCTs, enabling early diagnosis and disease prevention.

Historically, these services would have been reserved for hospital and research settings.

Jon Holmes, business director of Sira Biomedical, comments: "Sira provides an extensive range of optical instrument design and manufacture services to enable early diagnosis of diseases.

"This will not only enhance the range of quality and services available to patients, but will also create substantial cost savings.

"We are pleased to be able to develop better ways of meeting people's broader health needs using optical-based instrumentation, in line with the NHS Plan.".
