Online analyser for Portland cement
production
A new fully-automated online cement analyser to speed up the analysis of phase bundance in cement manufacturing is designed to replace the very slow manual techniques now in use
The new technology is based on real time X-ray diffraction employing a new Inel X-ray detector which provides an inexpensive and very accurate measurement of cement phases online, and at the same time allows information to be fed directly back to the kiln for production quality control This new system can be used on a moving belt way or any other continuous feed system, providing real time analysis of the abundance of various phases of material being manufactured

'Star Trek' technology for cancer screening
Portable FTIR device from Spectrolab, Anaspec, and Interspectrum claimed to be able to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions including diabetes and specific cancers
Phases include gypsum, hemi hydrate, An hydrate, calcite, and quartz.
Detailed information can be fed back directly back to the kiln for closed loop control of the manufacturing process.
This includes analysis of clinker material, kiln parameters including temperature profiles, residence times, excess of oxygen, etc.
In addition valuable quality information is provided for defining product setting times, as well as automating weigh feeder control for gypsum, limestone, and clinker quantities.
This, says Spectrolab, is just about everything that a cement manufacturer wants to know about the product.
Considerable interest has already been expressed in Australia, where a system has already been installed.
