Slab gel and electroblotting system designed for high capacity wide mini vertical gel electrophoresis applications promises speedier handling combined with improved resolution

A new slab gel and electroblotting system designed for high capacity wide mini vertical gel electrophoresis applications is the latest addition to the Scie-Plas range of electrophoresis products The TV200 unit is based on the successful TV100 mini and TV400 maxi vertical slab gel units and provides users with a high throughput system, while retaining all the ease of use and handling benefits of a mini system

For example, set-up speed has now been maximised so that two sets of glass plates can be set-up ready to receive gel solutions in around 30 seconds.

This has been achieved by reducing the number of clamping screws to two per bar and by the use of bonded spacer glass plates which guarantee perfect spacer-plate alignment.

However, improvements in set-up speed and ease of use have not impinged on the resolution capabilities of the unit, which have actually been enhanced.

The counterbalanced gasket system ensures complete separation of the upper and lower buffer chambers and prevents any uneven pressure being imparted on the gel.

Resolution can be further enhanced by utilising the supercooled option, which efficiently removes heat generated from the gel and/or allows the samples to be run faster.

A wide number of combs are available enabling the researcher to as near as possible match their sample number and lane sample volume requirements.

The maximum sample capacity is 48 per gel, 96 per run, while larger sample volume combs enable a volume of 220ul per well, using a 2mm thick ten sample comb.

These options make the mini wide a highly versatile unit, although to further improve performance, Scie-Plas now offer a utility blotting module which slots into the same outer tank.

This allows a complete high capacity slab gel and blotting system to occupy a minimum of bench space.

Blot set-up times have also been reduced with a new fast sealing compression cassette.

The supercooling option also allows dramatic improvements in overall blot quality.

All components and combinations are available including slab gel modules and systems, blotting modules and systems and complete slab and blotting systems, again allowing the researcher to order and receive exactly what they require.

Utilising the same tank provides the maximum combination of consistency and reproducibility with economy of cost and space.
