Microscopy imaging with confidence
New feature of upgraded imaging software provides for 'confidence mapping' of in-focus sections montaged to produce a complete image
Syncroscopy has launched its Auto-Montage version 4 image processing and analysis software This upgrade includes a new Confidence Map facility, which can be used to rapidly improve sample images and make their measurement more accurate

Software for 3D microscopy
Syncroscopy has launched Auto-Montage version 4 software, designed to help microscope users obtain perfectly focused images of three-dimensional samples in seconds

Demonstration of latest image analysis system at IPOT shows 'outstanding' improvements in imaging of three-dimensional samples
While users focus their microscopes, the Auto-Montage software automatically analyses and combines all of the in focus sections of these source images to produce one precise montage image.
Version 4 of the software utilises extremely sophisticated calculations, based on the degree of certainty of how well the source images have been focused and the level of detail in the sample, to make a new type of image called a Confidence Map.
The map provides a visual indication of how sure the software is about the exactness of the resulting image and its associated depth map, by shading areas of low confidence in black and those of high confidence in white.
The benefits of the Confidence Map are numerous, for example when using Auto-Montage's enhancing functions it alerts users to areas of low confidence in the depth map and montage image.
Then, if necessary they can change some of Auto-Montage's parameters to improve specific low contrast regions of the image.
This can be invaluable for applications such as reducing the effects of variations in background intensity in transmitted light samples, or cutting down noise spikes in three-dimensional models derived from montage images.
Alternatively, the Confidence Map can be used to see where areas of the highest confidence are, which is essential for making exact sample measurements.
Bob Town, Syncroscopy's general sales manager commented: "We are convinced that users of digital imaging cameras and microscopes will benefit from the Confidence Map function in Auto-Montage 4. Request a free brochure from Syncroscopy ...
Since it can be applied in areas as diverse as verifying insect species or measuring fingerprints, through to the analysis of engine debris, this software will be the perfect partner for any user that demands precise measurements and high fidelity images.".
