Innovative gel analysis software

Syngene has launched its new GeneDirectory gel data storage and analysis software, which rapidly and automatically compares thousands of bands from different gels

Syngene, a world-leading manufacturer of image analysis solutions, has launched its new GeneDirectory gel data storage and analysis software The package which works in conjunction with Syngene's GeneTools will save molecular biologists hours of repetitive work by automating comparison of thousands of bands on different gels

GeneDirectory was developed after a year of consultation with an internationally renowned plant genotyping institute.

Molecular biologists tested the software routinely and their input led to a range of features that geneticists of all disciplines will find invaluable.

Molecular biologists can view data on screen as familiar gel tracks.

Up to five gel tracks containing DNA from known samples are shown in an upper window, while those bands on the gel to be compared are seen in a lower one, making it ideal for applications such as paternity testing.

The software offers three ways to compare data, ranging from simple band comparison to more complex co-dominance and dominance analysis suitable for RFLP and AFLP studies; forensic work or gene mapping.

The results can then be exported to Excel spreadsheets or text files.

Built on a relational database structure, Syngene's GeneDirectory uses SQL queries for data manipulation and retrieval.

The benefit is that this allows the software to be networked for multiple access, whilst also permitting record locking, to avoid the potential hazard of parallel users altering records.

GeneDirectory is fully GMP and GLP compliant, comes with the guarantee of free software upgrades for life as well as expert IT support.

Paul Ellwood, Syngene's divisional manager said: "Using GeneDirectory makes matching bands from different gels much easier.

Since users no longer have to manually enter data there is less chance of keying errors. Request a free brochure from Syngene ...

When accuracy is crucial to scientists, for example in forensics or clinical genetics, we believe this software will rapidly increase productivity, while giving them the reward of superior results.".
