Water activity measurement in five
minutes
New generation of water activity analysers which present a new dimension of measurement performance, flexibility and functionality to the user
The water activity (aw) is the relative humidity which is reached at equilibrium in a sealed container in which a hygroscopic product has been placed The term 'water activity' describes the same physical state as does the term 'equilibrium relative humidity' or 'ERH'

Buffer and reagents as tablets or powders
The usage of the buffers is very easy: simply dissolve the tablet or pouch in a defined volume of pure water and receive a ready-to-use solution, requiring no pH adjustment or weighing
The water activity plays an important role for quality considerations such as product stability, storage ability (enzymatic and microbiological stability, aroma preservation), handling properties, physical characteristics or chemical stability.
The water content only describes (in weight%) how much water is still in a product.
The measurement of the water activity is a destruction-free, easy to use method which is applicable not only in laboratories but on the spot (warehouses, storage containers etc To measure the water activity Rotronic Messgerate (available through Tau Consult) now offers a new generation of water activity analysers which present - equipped with newest digital technology - a new dimension of measurement performance, flexibility and functionality to the user.
The tabletop display units of the HygroLab-series are now supplemented by a portable model the HygroPalm Aw1.
Both work with the same high precision measurement technology which guarantees reproducable, precise results and the full compliance between lab and production results.
Through the use of digital signals and modern mathematical procedures the highly advanced software AwQuick has made it possible that quantative results for the water activity are available within three to five minutes.
This means a ten times faster measurement than with the customary method.
The AwQuick software is already integrated in the laboratory display unit HygroLab3 and in the protable HygroPalm Aw1.
Additional features of the HygroLab series: multiple probes inputs, validated PC based data processing, instrument network, software operated calibration and adjustment, interchangable measuring units.
Various probes and extensive accessories enlarge the area of use.
