Reporting advances in genomics and proteomics

Tecan Europe has announced the availability of the latest issue of its house magazine, Tecan Journal

The latest 16-page issue provides scientists with further insights into how advances in liquid handling, automation and detection are enabling applications advances in the life sciences.

An article from Richard Jones (Children of the 90s project, Bristol, UK), describes how two Tecan robotic workstations implemented in their DNA bank and population genetics laboratory are helping them to gain a better understanding of the development of different diseases and to understand genetic and non-genetic influences on health and child development.

A report from the internationally renowned Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) describes a sensitive, flexible and reliable automated procedure for automating protein digestion.

The described method using a Tecan Advanced Proteam Digest, that includes automation of the destaining and reduction/ alkylation steps, is shown to be a fast and reliable method for processing of samples prior to MS analysis.

A third report focuses upon a new simple assay to measure kinase activity and inhibition using the Tecan Ultra Evolution detection reader.

Protein kinases play key roles in the signal transduction pathways of many diseases and are therefore important targets for drug screening.
