Thermo Electron introduces a new addition to its line of Smart accessories, a novel near-infrared integrating sphere to be used in conjunction with Thermo's Nicolet FT-IR spectrometers

The Smart NIR integrating sphere provides the best method of analysis of diffuse reflection, leading to easier sample handling and increased throughput Samples can be placed on top of it so minimal sample preparation is required

The integrating sphere achieves highly accurate and fast diffuse reflectance measurements of a wide range of powders and solids including polymers, plastics, natural materials, and incoming materials.

These types of analyses are of primary interest to research and analytical services in the polymer industry as well as raw material manufacturers.

When coupled to Thermo's Nicolet FT-IR spectrometers, the innovative new integrating sphere leads to automatic optimisation of the entire system, thereby eliminating errors and saving time through maintaining appropriate experimental conditions, says the company.

The system has been equipped with an optimised, dedicated InGaAs detector, enabling the scattered near-infrared energy to be collected with an exceptional efficiency of more than 95%.

The new accessory is easier to use than traditional fibre optics, requiring only minimal sample preparation and providing high throughput, non-destructive testing.

Sampling can be processed through glass and packaging materials.

The accessory is equipped with a sapphire window featuring a chemical resistant and leak-proof seal.

An optional sample spinner is also available for heterogeneous materials.
