The European chapter of the Laboratory Robotics Interest Group (LRIG) has made a flying start with its first inaugural meeting, which is reported to have been a great success

The first meeting of the European chapter of the Laboratory Robotics Interest Group, which focussed on liquid handling, was sponsored by The Automation Partnership (TAP) and hosted by GlaxoSmithKline at its Stevenage, UK, site Workshops and presentations showcasing the latest technologies were supported by exhibitions of leading laboratory robotics and automation vendors

The meeting attracted a capacity attendance of 200 industry experts with delegates from pharmaceutical companies including GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer.

Neil Bason from TAP, chair of the European LRIG said, "We have set a high standard for future meetings and judging from the level of interest generated throughout the industry, I am confident that the European Chapter of the LRIG will continue to develop as an important forum for laboratory robotics." The next meeting has already been scheduled for 2 May with further details to be announced on the LRIG website at www.lab-robotics.org.

According to Neil Bason, "There has been a lot of interest from both prospective speakers and delegates and we are advising attendees to register early to secure a place.

We were inundated with registrants for the last meeting and when we reached maximum capacity, we had to decline a further 100 requests for attendance.".
