Rod Westrup, formerly managing director of Jarvis Porter healthcare, joins The Automation Partnership as genomics business manager to develop its genomics and proteomics business
The Automation Partnership (TAP), manufacturer of advanced automated systems, has announced that Rod Westrop has joined the company as genomics business manager.
In this role, Dr Westrop will run and develop TAP's genomics and proteomics business, leveraging the company's platforms including BasePlate for PCR set up, HomeBase for protein crystallization, and a DNA sample management system.
Dr Westrop brings more than 22 years of knowledge and expertise to TAP.
Most recently, he was managing director of Jarvis Porter Healthcare, where he helped turn the company from a monthly loss to profit in less than a year.
Previously, he was European director of sales and business development at Lark Technologies, where he managed the company's European business and helped lead it to profitability within 18 months, a year earlier than expected.
He played a major role in Lark winning contracts with Pfizer, GSK, and Aventis for clinical trial work.
Prior to that, Dr Westrop was an account manager for Amersham Pharmacia, where he was responsible for all industrial chromatography sales to UK customers.
According to TAP chief executive Richard Archer, "As the genomics industry continues to develop, the need for high-throughput screening of drug candidates and gene and protein expression will become a serious bottleneck.
The addition of Rod's talents to TAP's existing range and knowledge will enable us to provide superior automated solutions to solve these problems." He continues, "Rod's successful experience in leading companies will be a key part to further building TAP's genomics business." Dr Westrop received a PhD in physiology from the University of London.
