Sequenom deploys Nautilus

Sequenom has selected Nautilus LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) to manage more efficiently the huge volume and complexity of data generated in genomics RandD

As part of the project, Thermo LabSystems has committed to implementing Nautilus to meet Sequenom's specific requirements.

The evaluation stage concluded in a shortlist of two competitive suppliers, with Thermo LabSystems winning the order on account of their implementation strategy, their wealth of application experience, in addition to Nautilus' strong LIMS functionality.

Among Nautilus's features that particularly attracted Sequenom was its 'Workflow' functionality, allowing users to map their own procedures graphically onto the LIMS.

Easy subsequent modification to workflows in Nautilus was a further feature popular among Sequenom's users.

Their project management team was also convinced by Nautilus' ability to integrate easily with their laboratory instrumentation.

With Sequenom anticipating approximately two million data points per day, including up to 300,000 individual samples, full automation was considered a critical aspect in their selection.

Sequenom provides a total solutions approach to genetic analysis.

Its scientists have developed a DNA analysis technology, called MassArray, that can analyse vast numbers of samples against a large well-defined set of genetic parameters with an unparalleled level of accuracy.

Nautilus is Thermo LabSystems' latest LIMS, focused on improving laboratory productivity and reducing the cost of ownership of LIMS to customers.

With radically reduced implementation times and patent pending technology minimising the need for customisation, Nautilus is delivering a significant return on investment to many customers in fields such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical R&D, forensics, food and beverage, and environmental services.
