Thermo Electron announces the appointment of Jim Neville as director of marketing and business development for informatics and services, a new position for the company.
Best known for its suite of Lims products, SampleManager and Nautilus, and the eRecordManager data archival solution, Thermo's informatics business was, until March 2003, doing business separately as Thermo LabSystems and Thermo Galactic.
In this newly created role, Neville will be responsible for marketing, product management and strategy.
He will help guide product direction for the company's range of informatics products and services, implementing high-impact marketing programmes, and pursuing opportunities to accelerate growth through strategic partnerships and acquisitions.
Commenting on Neville's appointment, Billy McKnight, general manager of the informatics business at Thermo, stated: "Jim's appointment reflects our commitment to build on our position as the world's premier provider of laboratory informatics solutions and services.
Jim's experience and impressive track record of formulating and implementing product management strategies in the software and life science industries makes him a key addition to our leadership team." Prior to his appointment, Jim Neville led a successful consulting firm, Cambridge Venture Advisors, which he founded in 1997.
CVA specialised in guiding product strategy and growth initiatives for software and information technology companies in a wide range of industries including life sciences and e-commerce.
Previously, Neville held product management and marketing positions in both the software and pharmaceuticals industries, most notably with AT and T and Procter and Gamble.
Neville acquired skills in strategic analysis as a consultant with Bain and Company, a leading strategic consulting form.
Neville holds an MBA from Harvard University and an engineering degree from Cornell University.
He will be based out of Thermo's offices in Beverly, USA.
