Highly-selective reaction monitoring helps to eliminate chemical noise and reduce the generation of false positives, and allows lower detection limits

Thermo Electron has incorporated highly-selective reaction monitoring (H-SRM) into its Finnigan TSQ Quantum family of triple quadrupole mass spectrometers This analytical application, a more advanced version of the widely used selective reaction monitoring (SRM) quantitative technique, helps to further eliminate chemical noise and reduce the generation of false positives, and allows lower detection limits

The new technique will be of particular interest to scientists who work in pharmaceutical quantitation laboratories.

It will significantly improve results by providing them with accurate, sensitive quantitative triple quad data in a timely fashion.

One of the main issues currently facing pharmaceutical companies is their ability to increase productivity and run as many samples as possible to deliver more accurate results.

H-SRM will improve confidence in the data generated since its 'higher' selectivity can lower LOQs.

Thermo's triple quadrupoles are therefore capable of higher tolerance levels without any significant loss of ion transmission.

With triple quadrupoles, SRM has implied that the precursor ion is selected with a mass tolerance of +/-0.5m/z or higher.

However, with H-SRM the precursor ion is selected with a mass tolerance of +/-0.1m/z or less thereby demonstrating the compelling advantages of H-SRM over SRM.
