High-performance MS to boost bio-analysis research
With a purchase price of euro 800,000 and funded by the German Research Council, this new equipment will make Giessen University one of the best-equipped bio-analysis facilities in Europe
The new Focus-PolarisQ is a complete GC/MS package which provides affordable MSn capabilities to highly productive laboratories performing routine analyses and general teaching laboratories.
Ideal for use in a wide range of applications, including forensic, toxicological, environmental, and flavour and fragrance analyses, the Focus-PolarisQ ion trap GC/MS is the affordable answer for reliable and robust quadrupole ion trap GC/MS and GC/MSn analyses.
Pesticide and pharmaceutical residues, sports medicine and arson analysis are applications where GC/MS/MS offers substantial selectivity and performance advantages over standard GC/MS SIM applications, says Thermo.
The Focus-PolarisQ utilises external ionisation, first introduced on ion traps by Thermo in 1995, to achieve maximum productivity and reliability while providing classical, library searchable spectra regardless of matrix and concentration.
Additionally, the Focus-PolarisQ uniquely integrates full-scan MS and MS/MS modes by simultaneously capturing both spectra for each peak in the chromatogram, thereby providing more valuable information.
The Focus-PolarisQ also features up to five stages of MSn using tandem mass spectrometry to remove the matrix ions from the mass spectrum.
This method eliminates false positives and elevated concentration values from matrix interferences that can be present in other analytical methods.
To further increase productivity in the high-volume laboratory, the Focus-PolarisQ can be combined with the TriPlus autosampler for 24-hour unattended analysis, application-specific software packages for automated reporting, and also with two styles of direct sample probes for sample introduction that reduce or eliminate sample preparation altogether.
These solutions equip the busy laboratory with reliable, easy to use and instantly productive packages, says Thermo.
