CometAssay control cells

A Trevigen product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Mar 21, 2006

In a typical Comet assay, freshly prepared untreated cells are used as controls, and differences in cell preparations create a significant source of variation

To overcome this problem, Trevigen scientists developed a set of stable control cell preparations containing known levels of DNA damage for use as standards when performing the CometAssay.

These controls, when electrophoresed in the CometAssay, consistently produce the same comets with predetermined tail and Olive moments and percent DNA in the tail.

These controls are stored indefinitely at 4C and can be used like markers as in other gel electrophoresis procedures to standardize and calibrate data to be compared between individual users and laboratories.
