New reference materials available from LGC Promochem for environmental analysis include chemical warfare verification standards

The latest edition of LGC Promochem's catalogue, Reference materials for environmental analysis, features many new products including chemical warfare verification standards and a larger number of pesticide standards The section on soil reference materials has been expanded, now giving information about many different soil types

Environmental products from the European Reference Materials (ERM) range and LGC Promochem solvents, including the Picograde products, are also featured for the first time.

The chemical warfare verification standards from Cambridge Isotope Laboratories are designed for use in Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) Treaty verification and related analyses such as in the detection of chemical weapons or the monitoring of chemical demilitarisation.

The CWC is a complex treaty representing over 20 years of negotiations among the participating countries at the Geneva Conference on Disarmament.

A major focus of the treaty is the creation of a list of prohibited and monitored chemicals.

Many of the new pesticide standards in this catalogue are supplied by Ultra Scientific.

Ultra was among the first of the standards manufacturers to have its quality control laboratory accredited to the ISO Guide 17025 and its manufacturing, quality control and distribution system is registered to the international ISO 9001 standard.

The Picograde range of solvents together with the high purity solvents for HPLC are an important new addition to LGC Promochem's environmental catalogue.

Picograde solvents are rigorously tested to ensure that they meet the demanding requirements of high accuracy trace analysis of organic contaminants such as pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and dioxins.

The ERM initiative is the result of collaboration between three major reference material producers and was launched in May 2004.

The three partners - LGC in the UK, the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurement (IRMM) in Belgium, and Bundesanstalt fur Materialforchung und Prufung (BAM) in Germany - are all committed to using the most advanced principles for the production of certified reference materials.

ERM certified values have clearly defined and stated traceability and are internationally recognised.

LGC Promochem's 2004-05 Reference materials for environmental analysis catalogue is tailored to meet the needs of those laboratories undertaking analysis of organic, organometallic and inorganic contaminants in water, sediments, soils, plants, food and biological samples.

For those analysts who cannot find the standard product they need listed, it contains a section which explains how to order custom solutions.

These are standard solutions of contaminants in aqueous solution or organic solvents prepared to customers' own specifications.
