The new range of Ultra microelectrodes (UMEs) have been specifically designed for use with the Uniscan Instruments SECM370 scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) system

Uniscan Instruments has recently introduced a new range of UMEs which have been specifically manufactured for SECM applications The introduction of the scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) has been a major development in the field of electrochemistry and has been shown to be a tool for surface imaging and has many potential applications in the study of fundamentals of surface reactions for example in corrosion science, or the study of enzyme stabilisation and for Mems

The spatial resolution of the technique to some extent depends on the size and type of the electrochemical electrode employed.

Ultra microelectrodes (UMEs), with dimensions of microns, are commonly used in many electrochemical applications.

Their performance and high current sensitivity makes them ideal for use in amperometric based analysis methods where they also offer benefits in electrochemical studies in low conductive electrolytes.

Certain criteria such as the ratio between the diameter of the glass and the platinum conductor (Rg) are important factors in determining the suitability of an electrode for SECM applications.

The fabrication methods are closely controlled to produce a minimum diameter of glass at the probe tip.

Platinum electrodes with dimensions of 5um, 15um and 25um are now available.

Uniscan Instruments design, develop, manufacture and supply electrochemical and corrosion measurement instruments, innovative scanning probe and surface measurement systems.

Uniscan has local distribution and marketing partners throughout the world.
