Yokogawa has, for the first time, packaged two high-accuracy 3-phase power meters into a benchtop enclosure to create its new WT 1600 wideband digital power analyser

The new WT1600 is a wideband digital power analyser designed for a wide variety of power measurement applications - from high-sensitivity energy-saving investigations to high-power measurements in rotating machinery The new instrument incorporates a colour TFT screen which will display both numerical and waveform data, and also allows voltage and current inputs to be viewed as waveforms or vectors

The WT1600 will accept up to six plug-in measurement modules, each incorporating a voltage and current input.

As a result, it is possible to carry out tests on two 3-phase systems simultaneously, a feature which is useful when investigating invertor efficiency, for example.

The basic instrument is able to measure currents up to 50A, but external shunts and transformers allow much higher currents to be measured.

The most sensitive current range is 10mA, which allows accurate readings to be obtained in very low power-consumption applications: something that is essential in evaluating the compliance of products with the recently introduced Climate Change Levy and related legislation.

The bandwidth of the WT1600 is 1MHz, which allows full coverage of high-frequency power electronics devices.

Low-frequency measurement is possible down to 0.5Hz to cover frequency convertor applications.

Harmonic analysis is a standard function, allowing the instrument to be used for evaluating product compliance with newly introduced CE regulations, and integration facilities can be used for measurement of kilowatt-hours.

A motor evaluation option can be used in conjunction with a torque meter to measure motor efficiency using dynamometer test rigs.

The WT1600 has a fundamental accuracy of 0.1% and a crest factor capability of 3 at full-scale input.

It has voltage ranges from 1.5V to 1kV.
