Instrument incorporates rake receiver and compressed-mode monitoring capabilities, follows base-station handovers, and carries out transport-channel decoding

The new ABiT AP-4000, available exclusively from Yokogawa, is an air protocol analyser for testing the latest third-generation UMTS (W-CDMA) mobile communications systems The AP-4000 conforms to the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) FDD specifications for user equipment, and is equally suited to use as an interoperability tester, a development tool for the testing and verification of protocols, and for field analysis and diagnostics

The new instrument incorporates a rake receiver and compressed-mode monitoring capabilities, will follow base-station handovers, and will carry out transport-channel decoding and higher-layer analysis.

Air signal measurement is non-intrusively carried out without any direct connection to BTS (Node B) or UE, and analysis is provided for protocol layers 1, 2 and 3 on both the uplink and the downlink.

The main unit connects to the controlling PC via an ethernet interface and TCP/IP sockets.

Powerful Windows 2000 based software provides parameter setting, profile graphs, code searching, physical and transport channel views, and RLC/RRC/NAS message decoding and display.

Applications include the verification and testing of mobile phones and base-station equipment at the development stage or in the field, protocol software debugging, and measuring-instrument verification.
