YSI (UK) announces the availability of the Reichert r2i300 compact automatic digital benchtop refractometer.

The r2i300 has a very small footprint of 292x216mm - approximately the size of a standard A4 sheet of paper - and is only 76mm high.

The r2i300 measures samples that are either transparent, translucent, or opaque.

The sample colour does not affect the accuracy of the measurement.

The instrument incorporates a linear scanned array camera that determines digitally the shadowline intersect.

Operator error is eliminated since the subjectivity of viewing a shadowline is not necessary.

Measurements are very fast, typically taking five seconds after sample application.

This instrument meets the testing requirements for quality assurance and R+D laboratories in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, and beverage industries, says YSI.

The r2i300 measures refractive index, % Brix, and has seven open channels for custom scales, making this a nine-scale refractometer.

The instrument comes with a CD library of 25 of the most popular custom scales.

In addition, a synchronisation software CD is supplied.

Install the software on an existing PC, and have bi-directional synchronisation communication with the r2i300.

Upload any of the custom scales to the refractometer.

Download to the PC the last 1000 measurements stored in the refractometer memory.

These measurements are date/time stamped and identified by specific channel name.

In addition, these measurements can be recorded on an optional thermal printer.

Also, access the refractometer's stored calibration log and view on your PC.

The r2i300 offers electronic documentation and storage capability not found on other refractometers in this price range.

The r2i300 measures all nine scales with automatic temperature compensation to insure reliable and accurate readings at various temperatures.

This unit operates without the need for a water bath circulator, thus saving additional bench space and unnecessary service maintenance.

Measurement is provided by a long life LED with 589nm wavelength.
