Thermo Fisher Scientific has expanded its range of Thermo Scientific Niton X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysers for consumer goods and electronics testing with the Niton FXL field X-ray lab.
Marc Tremblay, vice-president and general manager for Thermo Scientific Niton Analyzers, said: 'With the introduction of the Niton FXL field X-ray lab, we offer a range of products, both field mobile and handheld, geared toward helping importers, brand owners and retailers implement a standardised inspection protocol for incoming shipments to verify compliance at all stages of the supply chain.
'All of our analysers have the proven ability to quickly and reliably provide rapid testing solutions, which accrue from the instruments' portability, ease of use, speed and non-destructive nature.
'XRF complements rather than replaces lab-based testing, allowing for an optimised, two-stage process for finding problem toys, jewellery, apparel and other consumer goods, including packaging and electronics.
'Additionally, our unique Thermo Scientific Testall technology allows non-technical users to automatically differentiate the presence of lead on the surface or in the substrate of the tested object,' he added.
The Thermo Scientific Niton FXL Series field X-ray lab delivers XRF-based elemental analysis with lab-quality testing performance and low levels of detection for up to 40 critical elements.
This elemental analysis lab is housed in a compact, portable package that can be operated virtually anywhere on site.
It is available with 1mm, 3mm and 8mm spot sizes and X-Y positioning of the XRF head for locating a precise area on the sample for testing.
Its closed-beam design requires minimal licensing in most countries.
The Niton FXL is constructed from durable Lexan plastic that is both dust and water resistant to operate in harsh environments.
Compact and weighing less than 30lb (14kg), it is simple to transport and operate at an incoming warehouse loading dock or manufacturing line.
The Niton FXL is based on the company's purpose-built software.
