At ISRI 2011 Thermo Fisher Scientific will demonstrate the Niton XL2 GOLDD series and the enhanced Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t GOLDD+ series, which are suitable for the metal-recycling industry.
The company will be at booth 727 of ISRI 2011, which will be held 6-8 April 2011 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Suitable for scrap-metal grading and sorting, Thermo Scientific Niton analysers provide low-detection limits for tramp and trace element analysis.
The geometrically optimised large area drift detector (GOLDD) technology delivers faster measurement times and lower detection limits - as much as 10-times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to three-times more precise than conventional smaller silicon drift detectors (SDD).
The technology also allows analysis of light elements such as magnesium, aluminium, silicon, phosphorus and sulphur without helium purge or vacuum assist.
When joined with Thermo Scientific Niton analyser proprietary electronics, new analytical capabilities are made possible.
Thermo Scientific's instruments are at work sorting and grading alloys on six continents, in yards ranging from top-tier alloy processors to smaller-sized independents and regional recyclers.
These alloy analysers allow users to perform more than 1,000 readings in an eight-hour shift - from trace level analysis to pure metals and everything in between.
Niton XL2 GOLDD analysers have a 45kV, 100uA X-ray tube and are lightweight yet ruggedly built to withstand severe environments.
Ergonomically designed and featuring a daylight-readable display, the Niton XL2 GOLDD incorporates customisable menus for ease of use, multi-language options and a standard analytical range of more than 30 elements from magnesium to uranium.
It is capable of getting rapid results for tramp-and-trace element analysis.
Niton XL3t GOLDD+ analysers with their 50kV, 200uA X-ray tubes and tilting, colour, touch-screen display deliver lab-quality analysis on almost any alloy grade and provide the highest sensitivity and measurement accuracy along with the shortest possible testing times.
There is also a helium-purge option for ultra-low Mg analysis.
Handheld Niton XL2 series and Niton XL3t series XRF analysers are engineered for taking measurements anywhere, anytime, with accurate results available in seconds, saving significant expense compared to traditional laboratory testing.
These easy-to-use, non-destructive instruments provide integrated storage of all test results, which are completely tamperproof.
Multiple communication options are incorporated, including Bluetooth wireless and USB communications.
Both analysers also come standard with Thermo Scientific Niton Data Transfer (NDT) software, a suite of data management utilities that allows users to set operator permissions, print certificates of analysis to document results, export data into standard formats such as MS Excel, or operate the analyser remotely from a PC.
The NDT file format preserves and protects the original data from each sample analysis, ensuring that data is not unintentionally or intentionally compromised.
