Sonication for high throughput systems

SonicMan

Pinned lid design enables sonication of 96- and 384-well microwell plate formats with disposability to prevent cross-contamination

MatriCal introduces the SonicMan high throughput sonicationsystem for 96 and 384-well microwell plate formats.

Applicationsof the SonicMan include resuspending stored compounds in HTS;resolubilising compounds in synthesis; shearing genomic data intosmall fragments for PCR amplification; extracting targetproteins, RNA/DNA, and enzymes via cell lysis and membranedisruption; mixing low volume assays; driving sonochemicalreactions; and transfecting eukaryotic cells.

"The SonicMandemonstrates how a massively parallel sonication system designedto work in 96/384/1536 formats can be used to drive compoundsback into solution," explains Kevin Oldenburg, president ofMatriCal.

This technology relies on a pinned lid that is placedon a microplate (96 or 384 well).

The pins insert through the lidand into the sample contained within the plate.

A sonic horn isbrought into contact with the lid and the sonic energy istransferred into the sample.

As scientists are highly consciousof cross contamination, the lid has been developed as adisposable part.

The pinned lid is designed to ensure sampleintegrity with no well-to-well cross contamination.
