3 August 2011 - The 2011 Oxoid W H Pierce Memorial Prize, which commemorates the late W H (Bill) Pierce, has been awarded to Dr Brian Jones, senior lecturer at the University of Brighton, England.
The award acknowledges Dr Jones' research into the human gut mobile metagenome, the mobile genetic elements (such as plasmids) that are associated with gut microbiota.
Dr Jones is developing methods to study the transfer of genetic material within the whole gastric microbial community.
It is thought his work will shed valuable light on scientist's understanding of what is happening in the human gut microbiota and how it is involved in various diseases.
2 October 2009 - Oxoid has announced its joint platinum sponsorship, alongside Dupont Qualicon, of the International Association for Food Protection's 5th European Symposium on Food Safety.The symposium, entitled 'Advancements in Food Safety', will take place on 7-9 October 2009 at the Estrel Convention Center in Berlin, Germany.
