water-cooling system for ULT freezers
SANYO has introduced a three-minute video to its website to highlight the energy savings that are possible with the company's water-cooling system for ULT freezers.
Alongside energy savings, the water-cooling system is said to offer increased sample security.
The video illustrates that ULT freezers produce a significant amount of heat.
The introduction of targeted removal of heat from the condenser using circulating water means much less heat is released into the air.
Therefore, a smaller air-conditioning unit will keep the freezer room at 20C.
In addition, as water cooling is so efficient at removing heat from the condenser, it reduces the power requirement of the freezer itself.
Sanyo claimed that the resulting overall reduction in energy costs means that the water-cooling system can pay for itself in just a few years, and further energy savings are gained if the heat generated in the condenser is not regarded as waste.
The warmed water may be transported to where heat is needed and used, for example, to heat water for hand washing.
A water-cooled Sanyo freezer is also said to have a 30 per cent faster recovery time after door opening compared with a freezer with an air-cooled condenser.
In the event of a freezer-room air-conditioning failure, a water-cooled freezer expels less heat into the air so samples are kept at a safe temperature for longer.
